The “Y“ in Yoga
Our children are grappling with over exposure to digital screens, dramatic world events, catching up with their studies, social lives and even their own inner voice especially since Covid-19. These are heavy events to process as an adult, much less for a child.
I want to introduce kids to healthy outlets that minimize stress and invite a moment of calm and mindful being into their lives. The exercises from our classes are something they can keep with them for a lifetime so they can center themselves for imbalances that may lie ahead.
The yoga sessions are not just about physical exercise; they are designed to cultivate mindfulness and body awareness. Through a combination of games, playful yoga poses, breathing exercises and interactive activities, yogis will embark on a journey of self discovery and inner balance.
Examples of lesson activities
Question of the Day: Yogis can enhance S.E.L. with mindful questions by observing, identifying and expressing personal thoughts and feelings to their peers.
Bell Pass: yogis will utilize slow, mindful movements and team work to transport the handbell to classmates without making noise. This activity encourages mindful decision making and thoughtful movement.
Yoga sequences: Yogis can improve coordination, balance, and strength by being introduced to a variety of yoga styles including, chair yoga, restorative yoga and partner yoga.
Feather Meditation: Students will activate the parasympathetic nervous system by exhaling . Thus detoxifying the body, reducing stress and anxiety.
